Norwich Local YMCA Building

Norwich YMCA revitalization begins

News

The old Norwich YMCA site is undergoing redevelopment, with trees, trash, and dirt being cleared. On Thursday morning, there will be an official groundbreaking for the 20,000 square foot former YMCA building, which will become the headquarters of Mattern Construction, featuring a brew pub and retail spaces. The state Department of Economic and Community Development provided $2 million in funding, alongside other sources, for Brownfield cleanup.

Norwich City Planner Deanna Rhodes has approved soil testing, and construction is expected to begin in late fall or early winter. This project is part of the city’s broader downtown rehabilitation efforts, with other developments ongoing, such as the Hotel Callista and apartments on Main Street. The transformation of the YMCA site marks a significant milestone for the city’s progress.
